Oakville Galleries is currently embarking on a new chapter—under the leadership of Executive Director Séamus Kealy—that places artists at the center of its vision.
Our 2024 programme—with exhibitions opening across the winter, spring and summer seasons—includes award-winning, international artists Tarik Kiswanson, Sung Tieu, and Hedda Roman, all of whom produce highly-charged and politically-informed artwork. Notions of displacement; flight; identity in flux; border control; surveillance; imprisonment; historical forms of propaganda and contemporary forms of disinformation; and military and administrative violence upon individuals and nations are referenced by these artists.
We have recently unveiled a state-of-the-art website with improved design and accessibility, as well as innovative discursive and artistic content. We are also pleased to announce that we will be offering an artist-in-residence program at Gairloch Gardens this year, which will complement our international programme by establishing an artistic laboratory for on-site experimentation and exhibition preparation. And a new outdoor avant-garde cinema programme, called Sunset Kino, will debut in the warmer months of 2024. Located lakeside at Gairloch Gardens, Sunset Kino was originally conceived in 2016 by Séamus Kealy in Austria. This year’s theme will be “Everything is a Lie.”
In autumn 2024, we are showing the work of Toronto-based artist Charles Stankievech. More to be announced soon.
