Building on a strong base of existing activities and community relationships, Oakville Galleries’ school programs challenge the traditional paradigm of museum education and invite youngsters to come together in a dialogue about contemporary culture. Our staff is guided by a vision that creative work is a vehicle for knowledge and understanding and a stimulus for lifelong learning. Through the school programs, students are provided with an in-depth learning experience in which they can develop important lifeskills: the ability to work individually and with others, to develop technical skills, to think critically and to communicate effectively.
Our programs are designed by artists and educators in collaboration with consultants and teachers from Halton-Peel area school boards. The programs explore contemporary art practices with links to modern and historical artworks and address the Ontario curriculum in Visual and Media Arts, Science and Technology, Social Studies, Literacy and Languages (English and French) and in Media Literacy.
School programs are made possible thanks to the generous support of the Ontario Ministry of Education and the Ontario Ministry of Culture.
