Summer Art Camps

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Oakville Galleries' day camps offer instruction in key art-making techniques such as drawing, painting and sculpture, and then build on these fundamentals with fun-filled projects. No two campers' outputs look alike, as every activity is adapted to suit our participants' individual ideas, interests and abilities. For ages 6 to 12.

This year's camps will focus on getting outside as much as possible, adding additional health and safety as well as using nature as inspiration. Classes will include instruction in creating artworks influenced by the beautiful surroundings of Gairloch Gardens and Lake Ontario. Each session will introduce new techniques as we bring them to life with our imaginations. Materials such as chalk pastel, watercolour, canvas and clay will be used to create beautiful masterpieces.

This year Oakville Galleries will also reintroduce our Camps for French Learners. Designed for children with a basic to intermediate understanding of French, Camps for French Learners are a great way to strengthen your child's French speaking skills before returning to school in September. Taught in French by an artist from Oakville Galleries, our programs combine art activities and language lessons for a dynamic hands-on learning experience. Students should have at least one year of core French classes or French immersion before participating in this program.

In the event of a closure or changes to provincial health guidelines, Oakville Galleries will instead offer virtual content and/or adjust programming accordingly throughout the listed dates.

PROGRAM DETAILS

Time

Monday to Friday, except on statutory holidays. Camp begins each day at 9:30 am and ends at 3:30 pm

Extended Care

According to Halton Region public health guidelines regarding learning cohorts, Oakville Galleries cannot provide extended care for 2022. We thank you for your understanding.

Location

All classes will be conducted in the Main Floor Education Centre, the Studio and primarily, outside in Gairloch Gardens. Drop-off will be outside of the Education Centre at Oakville Galleries in Gairloch Gardens, 1306 Lakeshore Road East, 2 km from downtown Oakville.

Health and Safety

The safety of our campers and staff is our top priority. To continue our mindful approach to helping reduce the spread of COVID-19 and keeping overall health, Oakville Galleries programs meet health guidelines designed in consultation with the Town of Oakville and in alignment with provincial health guidelines for day camps. Guidelines include lower ratios and capacity, encouraging physical distancing and as much instruction outdoors as possible.

Each camp class will consist of up to 14 campers and one instructor working exclusively with the assigned group. Each group will have their own studio space and access to washrooms. Interactions between different groups will be kept to a minimum and mainly consist of outdoor and lunch time in order to avoid the over mixing of cohorts.

Each child will be provided with a personal art kit which will be stored in the studio space and not shared with other students. Our staff will create seating arrangements to allow students to sit at least two metres away from other participants while working. During the program, art instructors will ensure that all students practice social distancing measures. Students and staff may be required to wear face masks indoors if Halton Region public health guidelines state they must at the time of camp. Each learning space will be equipped with hand sanitation stations and a sink for thorough hand washing.

An email outlining all necessary information listed above will be sent to registrants prior to the program start date.

What to bring

Campers are required to bring lunches, snacks, and drinks for each day of camp (nut-free products only, please). Clothing and footwear that can endure both messy fun and outdoor play are encouraged. Smocks are not provided. As we aim to spend at least two hours outside everyday day, we highly recommend campers bring hats, sunscreen, and refillable water bottles. All art materials are supplied by Oakville Galleries.

Cancellation policy

Cancellation with a refund must be requested at least 14 days before your child's program begins. There are no refunds for cancellations requested less than 14 days before the program begins.

INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY

Class will run rain or shine and all participants should dress accordingly. Program content will be adjusted to the weather as necessary if working outside.

MISSED CLASSES

In the event that a participant is unable to attend a scheduled class during the program, make-up dates, refunds or credits will not be provided.
