Family Saturdays

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Family Saturdays

    Fall 2023

Join us at the Gallery each month with family and friends for free art activities inspired by our current exhibitions.

Curious about what happens at Family Saturdays? Every event is different from the last—we've created handmade paper, sketchbooks, landscapes, and self-portraits, just to name a few of our recent art-making adventures! During the drop-in time, tables are set up with hands-on activities for families and visitors of all ages. We encourage families to explore our exhibitions during their visit, and make connections between their projects, and the work of our featured artists this season.

Please note: Young children should have an adult to create alongside them for safety.

Our Family Saturday sessions are scheduled monthly as free, drop-in events from 12:00- 3:00 PM. For all ages, no pre-registration is required.

14 October 2023 | Cyanotypes
Gairloch Gallery Location

Learn how to print using the sun! Drop in and discover one of the first photographic processes ever developed. Participants will be given the opportunity to design, and experiment with the sun as a light source (or UV lights weather permitting), and develop their own cyanotypes.

18 November 2023 | Club Collage!

Centennial Square Gallery Location

TIME CHANGE: Club Collage! will take place on 18 November from 10 AM – 1 PM.

As part of our current exhibition, Having Ideas by Handling Materials by collaborative duo Leisure (Meredith Carruthers and Susannah Wesley) we're inviting you to Club Collage! to get together with friends and make some art! Using imagery inspired by the exhibition, participants are invited to cut and paste while they chat, listen to music, and experiment with simple art materials.

9 December 2023 | Sun Catcher Installation
Gairloch Gallery Location

Inspired by Elif Saydam's 's exhibition Eviction Notice, we will experiment with image transparencies to create a collaborative art installation. During this drop-in program, we will slow down and take note of the everyday spaces, objects, and built structures in our neighbourhood. We'll explore and look to understand the importance of these places and objects in our local community, while making a sun catcher panel to add to our installation.
