Audio Walk: A Large Slow River

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Audio Walk: A Large Slow River

    30 June – 10 November 2023

Experience one of the most loved pieces in the permanent collection of Oakville Galleries, as you walk along the waterfront and flowers at Gairloch Gardens. 𝘈 𝘓𝘢𝘳𝘨𝘦 𝘚𝘭𝘰𝘸 𝘙𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳, 2000, is a site-specific audio walk by Canadian artist Janet Cardiff. In Cardiff's audio walks, visitors follow audio cues while experiencing a physical environment.

Commissioned in 1999 and recorded live on-site in Gairloch Gardens, the work responds to the gallery's surrounding landscape and fuses fictional narrative and sound to question sensory experience.

The work will be accessible for the public to engage with until mid-November, depending on the weather.

If you are interested in experiencing the audio walk, please ask at the front desk when you visit Oakville Galleries in Gairloch Gardens. Bring along your own corded headphones for the walk or purchase a set of headphones at front desk and leave identification (valid health card or driver's license) with the gallery animateur.

Additionally, please note the following: iPods will be sanitized between each use. This audio walk involves several stairs and is not wheelchair accessible.
