PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Woven Prints with Anne Devitt
-
Thursdays, 15 June + 22 June 2023
In this two-week class participants will experiment with printmaking and paper weaving. Led by our guest artist Anne Devitt, simple images or ideas will be reimagined through printmaking techniques and weaving.
During the first week, you will explore relief printmaking methods. You will learn the basics of how to print with lino blocks on paper and experiment with different mark-making techniques.
In the second week, you will then explore altering the image using the weaving process. Manipulating your printed materials from the previous week you will create something new and tell a new story by weaving your materials together.
Beginners are welcome, as well as those with experience in the medium. Carving tools, brayers, lino blocks, inks, and paper will be provided, just bring yourself and we'll prepare the rest!

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Anne works with woodcut and linoleum on paper that is hand-printed, cut up, rearranged, and woven back together. Within her works Anne experiments with simple imagery and mark making; “I think of the gouges as marks left behind by events, experiences or memories. The weaves create random patterns that speak to the complexity and unpredictability of life."
Anne Devitt is a Toronto-based artist and educator. Recently retired, Anne taught School Visits at Harbourfront Centre for over 30 years. She holds a BFA from York University along with a Bachelor of Education at The University of Toronto.
