PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
For more than 100 years—from the dawn of Dada through to contemporary conceptualism—the process of producing artworks guided by a fixed set of rules or instructions has been an exceptionally fruitful one, responsible for some of the greatest artworks of the twentieth century. In this program, students will explore—and test—several examples of instruction-based artworks before developing their own rules-driven art piece. Participants will subsequently detail and publish their art “recipes” in zines of their own making.
