Under the Q.E.W. This is the third time I've been here, and the second time I've spent any length of time (the last time was as a shortcut). I sit on the steps; the grass smells a bit like piss (is this what happens when there aren't any public washrooms?). The trucks are quite noisy overhead, but there's still a sense of calm and solitude. If this is a psychological need, do we get it where we can? As I walk in I notice a mother and child walking out from under the bridge, going the other direction. They both are carrying bags from a discount grocery store. I realize that I've never seen anyone hang out here; everyone I see is passing through, either on foot or by bike. There's a range of different ages. Nobody looks like they have money.
