In the next twenty years the population of the Greater Toronto Area will increase by several million people, the majority of which will be from outside Canada. In anticipation of this the Ontario Municipal Board has earmarked for development 8,000 acres of fields, farms and ravines north of Dundas Street and South of the future extension of Highway 407. Duany Plater-Zyberk & Company (DPZ), a firm that has attracted wide attention to its “New Urbanism” practice was contracted by the Town of Oakville to develop plans for this area, North Oakville.
“Blueprint Oakville” is a campaign by the Town’s Communication’s Department designed to increase community awareness and participation in this major town planning initiative. This site includes maps of the Four Conceptual Plans for North Oakville presented by Andrés Duany for public feedback in October 2003 and subsequently forwarded with amendments to the Town Council.
