Collage and painting workshop in Gairloch Gardens*

  • Friday 24 November 2017, 2:00 pm–3:00 pm

After looking at the art of Canadian artist Sylvie Bélanger, participants will be inspired to create collages using magazine clippings. Learn how to add feeling and meaning to your piece by adding painted details under the guidance of our friendly staff.

Printmaking workshop at Centennial Square

  • Friday 1 December 2017, 2:00 pm–3:00 pm

Learn how to create a beautiful piece of patterned fabric, inspired by our current exhibition featuring the work of Tamara Henderson. Seniors will etch foam shapes to make stamps, then use them to print onto a selection of colourful fabrics to make their own pieces of printed textile art.

Sculpture workshop in Gairloch Gardens*

  • Friday 26 January 2018, 2:00 pm–3:00 pm

Take an informative tour through a new exhibition by Allison Katz made with our Gairloch Gardens location in mind. Just as the artist took inspiration from the historic grapevine frieze in our exhibition space, so too will participants look to this beautiful, original wood carving to make their own sculptures out of clay.

*Free bus transportation available to and from the gallery from most Oakville seniors residences; see below for details.

Collage and painting workshop at Centennial Square

  • Friday 23 February 2018, 2:00 pm–3:00 pm

After visiting a series of new paintings made by Canadian artist Allison Katz at Centennial Square, participants will learn how to compose their own paintings that incorporate poetic and imaginative motifs. This workshop will blend acrylic painting techniques with various collage materials to make unique compositions on canvas.

Watercolour workshop at Centennial Square

  • Friday 9 March 2018, 2:00 pm–3:00 pm

Play with painting in this fun and exploratory watercolour workshop. We will take a closer look at the artwork of Tom Dean and Sandra Rechico, two Canadian artists who transform simple shapes, marks and colours from ordinary to otherworldly. Participants will then try their hand at making their own evocative images with watercolours, and experiment with adding salt, alcohol and resist to create texture and gradations of colour.
