Junior Summer Camps

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Oakville Galleries' art camps are a great way to maximize your children's creativity while guaranteeing plenty of excitement! Programs offer hands-on instruction in key art-making techniques such as drawing, painting and sculpture, then build on these fundamentals with fun-filled projects, such as animations, performances and large-scale installations. Each week of camp includes interactive tours of the Galleries' art exhibitions and outdoor recreation activities. Capping off the week, campers celebrate their creations with a special Friday afternoon finale for their family and friends. Check out what participants got up to in past years in in our photo archive.

Creekside Clubhouse

  • 4 July – 7 July* (full)
  • 31 July – 4 August 2017

The simplest things can bring the greatest joy! Kids will spend their days along Morrison Creek in Gairloch Gardens, building and decorating play spaces such as forts, clubhouses and tents using everyday materials like cardboard and fabric. Campers will also learn about our wild neighbours living in the creek—including ducks and fish—and how to make their habitat healthier. As our creekside community grows, we'll add an outdoor movie theatre, have picnics and invent easy games to play!

Reverse Time Capsules

  • 10 July – 14 July 2017
  • 8 August – 11 August 2017*

We all know a time capsule leaves items from the past for people in the future to learn from. But a reverse time capsule is something else altogether, filled with goodies from life a hundred years from now! Campers will construct their own reverse time capsules, using sculpture, painting, video, and found objects to make the things they imagine will define life in 2117.

To the Moon or Bust

  • 24 July – 28 July 2017
  • 21 August – 25 August 2017

Film your own adventure into outer space! Taking a cue from our summer exhibition, Propped, kids will make props, sets and costumes for an imaginary journey to space. With the assistance of our instructors and volunteers, we will film their cosmic adventure and share it at a space-themed screening complete with a bottle rocket launch!

Treat Yo Self

  • 28 August – 1 September 2017 (full)

The last week of summer should be spent treating yourself: making marshmallow treat pizzas, tie-dying t-shirts, sipping homemade lemonade by the lake, and flying handmade kites are just a few of the special activities we'll enjoy. If there's something we can't do in real life, we'll make it as an art project instead! Join us as we indulge our creative whims.
