Conversation with Elizabeth McIntosh and Nestor Kruger

In conjunction with Elizabeth McIntosh's current exhibition Show Up, Oakville Galleries presents a conversation between McIntosh and artist Nestor Kruger. The two have known each other since the mid 1990s, when their work was included in the inaugural 'Painting Disorders' exhibition in Toronto. The conversation will conclude with questions from the audience.


Elizabeth McIntosh received a MFA from Chelsea College of Art London in the UK and a BFA (Honors) from York University in Toronto. Since 2005 McIntosh has been an associate professor in the Faculty of Visual Art + Material Practice at the Emily Carr University of Art and Design. She has exhibited widely in Canada and the United States, including the Vancouver Art Gallery (2018); Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal (2017), Logan Center, University of Chicago (2014); Galerie de l'UQÀM, Montreal (2013); Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art, Toronto (2012); Contemporary Art Gallery, Vancouver (2010). McIntosh's work is held in public collections including the National Gallery of Canada, the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal, and the Vancouver Art Gallery. Her painting is featured in Vitamin P3: New Perspectives in Painting (Phaidon Books, 2016).


Nestor Kruger's studio practice consists of on-site painting installations that create on echo of the presentation space through strategies of mirroring and duplication; digital animations that superimpose an internal rhythmic structure within architectural models and simulated natural environments and recently a series of spatiotemporal sound works. His work has been exhibited nationally including the Power Plant, the Art Gallery of Ontario, the National Gallery, the Contemporary Art Gallery and at Optica in Montreal and internationally, including Germany, Sweden, France, South Korea and in the United Arab Emirates.
