Designed for children with a basic understanding of Mandarin, Camps for Mandarin Learners are a great way to strengthen your child's Mandarin speaking skills. Taught in Mandarin by an artist from Oakville Galleries and a teacher from Mandarin Ler, our programs combine art activities and language lessons for a dynamic hands-on learning experience. The language level in this program is geared toward those that do not speak Mandarin at home.
The registration for our kids’ camps are now closed. At this time we are revisiting our day-camp structure to accommodate our current social distancing practices. Please follow along over our social media channels for updates!
A Curious Collection
- 10 – 14 August 2020
Join us to explore the weird wonders that can be contained in your very own cabinet of curiosities. Working with clay, painting and sculpture, campers will create their own collection of strange artworks and wondrously obscure objects—from rare trinkets and ancient artifacts to magical creatures. In this program, adapted from the English program of the same name, art activities will be merged with language lessons.
Colour Your World
- 3 – 7 August 2020
This week's art projects will bring a splash of colour to your days! Campers will explore all things technicolour, creating artworks that experiment with a kaleidoscope of pigments through a wide variety of materials and techniques. Participants will have the opportunity to improve their Mandarin speaking and vocabulary skills through hands-on language activities. This camp is based on the English program of the same name.
Monday to Friday. Camp begins each day at 9:00 am and ends at 4:00 pm.
Extended care is available each day beginning at 8:00 am and ending at 5:30 pm. Morning care is $25 per child for the full week. Afternoon care is $35 per child for the full week. Parents must register for extended care at least 2 business days in advance.
All camps are held at Oakville Galleries in Gairloch Gardens, 1306 Lakeshore Road East, located 2 km east of downtown Oakville.
What to bring
Campers are required to bring lunches, snacks, and drinks for each day of camp (nut-free products only, please). Clothing and footwear that can endure both messy fun and outdoor play are encouraged. As we aim to spend at least two hours outside every day, hats, sunscreen and refillable water bottles are also highly recommended. All art materials are supplied by Oakville Galleries.
Cancellation with a refund must be requested at least 7 days before your child's program begins. Refunds are subject to a $25 administrative fee. There are no refunds for cancellations requested less than 7 days before the program begins.
In the event that a participant is unable to attend a scheduled class during the program, make-up dates, refunds or credits will not be provided.
