Guided Tour & Workshop
Grades 9 to 12

At the Galleries

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Following a guided tour, students will respond creatively to the artworks they've seen at the Galleries with a hands-on art-making workshop. This is a great opportunity to work under the guidance of a professional educator with expertise in the visual arts, giving students a chance to explore and expand their creativity, experiment with unusual materials, and learn new techniques used by today's artists to create original works of art.

Workshops at Oakville Galleries 2018–19:

David Hartt Workshop: Stop motion landscapes
Bookings available between 24 September – 21 December 2018
Working in groups, students will use watercolour paintings and digital cameras to create stop motion videos that depict evolving landscapes, inspired by the videos of David Hartt. Bookings for grades 1 to 3 will require the support of adult volunteers.

Valérie Blass Workshop: Hybrid sculptures
Bookings available between 28 January – 22 March 2019
After viewing and discussing the work of sculptor Valérie Blass, students will learn techniques for hand-building figures out of clay, then transform their sculptures from recognizable figures into quirky hybrid characters through the addition of mixed media, such as fabric and found objects.

Rochelle Goldberg & Rebecca Brewer Workshop: Textile collages
Bookings available between 8 April – 3 June 2019
