In the first session, teens will be introduced to basic techniques and approaches for writing about visual art, visit the exhibition Addressing Oakville at Oakville Galleries, and begin to express their ideas on paper. In the following session, participants will meet art critic Julia Dault from the National Post and learn the steps she takes before writing her weekly column. For Session III, scheduled during March Break, teens will be guided on a daytrip to Toronto and visit one of Canada’s leading publishing magazines, The Walrus. There, students will receive a guided tour of the editorial and design office and learn how writers make their mark in the publishing world. At the last session, writers will complete their goal and submit their very own art review!

28 February - Session I: Participants will learn the questions and approaches to writing about art through a series of games and practice. In this session, teens will visit the exhibition Addressing Oakville at Oakville Galleries, then begin to practice writing about their experience and engagement with the show. Presented by Denise Frimer at Oakville Galleries, at Centennial Square, 120 Navy Street.
7 March - Session II: Julia Dault, Art Critic with the National Post, will hold a special workshop on her methods of writing about art, and share with us her interest and experience as a contributing writer for a national newspaper. Presented by Julia Dault at Oakville Galleries in Gairloch Gardens, 1306 Lakeshore Road East.
14 March - Session III: A special tour guided by a member of The Walrus Magazine. Teens will learn how a magazine is edited, designed and assembled under one roof. This session will allow teens the unique opportunity to witness behind the scenes of the making a magazine. An organized daytrip to Toronto will be lead by Denise Frimer. Scheduled over March Break/TBA.
21 March - Session IV: Participants will spend the final session with Denise Frimer, writing and editing their review. Writers are expected to complete a 250 word art review on the artwork of their choice and then will have the opportunity to have it published! This final session will take place at Oakville Galleries, at Centennial Square, 120 Navy Street.
