The Edna Powers Memorial Fund

Oakville Galleries is committed to developing and maintaining a permanent collection as a legacy for the Oakville community in an effort to encourage the public to regard art as an integral part of their lives.†Purchases and donations into the permanent collection continually expand its representation of artistic trends responding locally, nationally and internationally to new developments in art.

Over the past 10 years in particular, the evolution and importance of the collection is quickly gaining international recognition. Currently, the total permanent collection contains more than 1,100 works of art, valued at over $1.7 million. Dedicated to providing public access to this collection, major institutions from across Canada borrow work from Oakville Galleries for exhibitions and the Galleries is able to programme one annual touring exhibition from the collection.

The Edna Powers Memorial, an acquisition fund, was established to honour a life-long volunteer at the Galleries whose enthusiasm for art and design and her dedication in service to the Galleries served as the catalyst of the fund. Through the generous ongoing financial support from the Corporation of the Town of Oakville, the Canada Council Art Acquisition Program and donors to The Edna Powers Memorial Fund, Oakville Galleries maintains an active acquisitions programme.

The Edna Powers Memorial Fund will be of particular interest to individuals, organizations, funding agencies and companies with an affinity for the procurement of a substantial permanent public art collection within the Town of Oakville. To contribute to The Edna Powers Memorial Fund simply print the Friends of Og2 Giving Circle commitment form and designate your gift on the appropriate line.
