Oakville Galleries invites individuals and companies to partner with us to ensure school programmes that are provocative, engaging and challenging for the students in our community. Our educational goals are built on a strong base of existing activities and partnerships, reflecting our commitment to ensure accessible quality educational programming to the community.
Research has shown there is a significant relationship between the positive exposure to arts at a young age and building increased confidence, problem-solving and interpersonal skills. As well, children’s art education develops life-long artistic and creative abilities.
Diversity and accessibility of art education is paramount. Children’s art educational programmes at the Galleries are offered at various registration requirements - from free to a registration fee of a few hundred dollars per child based on the programme type and duration. School programmes are offered as cost-effectively as $3/student.
Annually over 3000 children and youth in our community are provided with an in-depth learning experience in which they can develop important life skills: the ability to work individually and with others, to develop technical skills, to think critically and to communicate effectively.
At Oakville Galleries, our Educational Partners:
- foster and nurture the youngest citizens of our community
- ensure programming is accessible to Secondary and Elementary School students
- endorse a positive exposure to arts at a young age to develop a healthy, well-adapted and creative community
- are offered recognition for their commitment to the arts.
Art Classes and Camps, delivered in English and French, offer a hands-on dialogue about contemporary art and culture. Children learn to look critically at exhibitions and respond to them by producing their own projects. Youth programmes address the needs of a diverse and multicultural community by building partnerships with School Boards, youth centres and other local organizations.
School programmes challenge the traditional paradigms of museum education. Endorsed by the Halton District School Board, the Halton Catholic District School Board and le Conseil scolaire de district Centre-Sud-Ouest, programmes allow students to explore elements of design, to investigate the social political and historical significance of urban and suburban spaces. Our education team works diligently with these Boards to ensure the objectives and outcomes of each programme offered support curriculum requirements.
Our No-Kit programme engages Elementary students in the process of looking at and responding to their immediate environment. In 2005, No-Kit expanded to include Secondary schools. In addition, the No-Kit was awarded the 2005 Educator’s Award from the Ontario Association of Art Galleries.
Educational programming delivery is proudly supported by: TD Waterhouse, 2005 Educational Partner Canada Council for the Arts The Ontario Trillium Foundation Community Foundation of Oakville
