English Camps

Oakville Galleries day camps offer hands-on instruction in essential art-making techniques, such as drawing, painting and photography, then expand on these fundamentals with fun-filled projects such as animations, outdoor artworks, videomaking, and large-scale installations. At the end of each week, campers celebrate their creations with an exhibition for their family and friends. Oakville Galleries' day camps are a great way to maximize your kids' creativity—while guaranteeing plenty of excitement!

Snail Trails
Can you imagine the places you'd go if you could carry your house on your back? Let's follow a snail's trail and see what we find! For budding naturalists with an urge for exploration, this camp will take participants on a discovery journey of local wildlife and the homes they make in Gairloch Gardens. Using drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, and stop-motion animation, campers will make portable artworks that provide them with everything they need to document and interact with the wild and wonderful world that surrounds us.

Thrills on Wheels
This week we're going for a joy ride! Inspired by artworks made in cars—on view in our summer exhibition, Auto-Motive—campers will create projects that offer exciting ways to travel using traditional and contemporary art materials such as painting and video. Participants will start the week by making maps, travel costumes, and miniature vehicles, then build roadways, ramps and race courses for their tricked-out moveable sculptures that will transport them to fun!

19 August–23 August

Rumpus Room
It's party time! Campers will rock out in our studio and transform it into an exciting play space by making games, animated cartoons, murals and posters, musical instruments, and all the fixings to keep friends entertained! Neon paint, computer animation programs, funky textiles, soft sculpture, and video projections are a few of the fun things campers will experiment with to create a super cool hang out room.

Camps for French Learners
In partnership with the Alliance Française

Designed for children with basic to intermediate understanding of French, Camps for French Learners are a great way to refresh your child's French speaking skills before returning to school in September. Taught in French by an artist from Oakville Galleries and a French teacher from the Alliance Française, our program combines art activities and language lessons for a dynamic hands-on learning experience. All participants must take a brief online language test to assess their French so lessons can be adapted to each participant's proficiency level.

Rumpus Room
This week-long program—a modified version of our Rumpus Room camp in English (see description above)—will see participants improve their French vocabulary and language skills while exploring painting, sculpture and video to create a super cool hang out room.

12 August–16 August
26 August–30 August

Snail Trails
Adapted from our Snail Trails camp in English (see description above), this week will merge art projects with language lessons, as participants explore drawing, painting, sculpture, and more to document and interact with the wild and wonderful world that surrounds us.

19 August–23 August

Cost: $268 ($315 for non-members)
