Save the date! The second annual Doors Open Oakville is happening September 26 & 27
The Doors Open concept had its beginnings in France in 1984. From there it grew to ‘European Heritage Days’, in 11 countries. Today over 40 countries, worldwide, have initiated the program. Each year in Ontario, hundreds of historic buildings, natural spaces and heritage gardens – some of which are rarely accessible to the public – open for free as part of Doors Open.
Last’s years inaugural Doors Open Oakville event was a huge success with more than 8,000 visitors contributing more that $200,000 to the local economy. This year, there are even more intriguing sites and many of them will offer special activities, such as tours, exhibitions and demonstrations!
Official Doors Open Oakville featured sites include:
Oakville Galleries in Gairloch Gardens (1306 Lakeshore Road E) Architect: Colonel William MacKendrick Year Built: 1922 at Centennial Square (120 Navy Street) (905) 844-4402 www.oakvillegalleries.com
New this year, Oakville Galleries at Centennial Square will be a featured site at Doors Open and again, the Gairloch location will participate as a busy site. Visitors to both locations will experience breathtaking contemporary photography exhibitions that explore how war has changed the modern landscape. More information go to www.oakvillegalleries.com.
